PLEASE JOIN OUR PETITION TO BRING BACK THE FLOATS TO OUR WEYMOUTH CARNIVAL thankyou Jan & Mandy
Hi, weymouth carnival has been running for 50 years and locals and holiday makers flock in the excess of 250 thousand people attending each year, to a massive colourful party atmosphere procession ,that was up to 2 years ago when unfortunatly the round table stepped down from the running of the carnival, after so many successful years

A new carnival committee stepped in to try and keep the Weymouth carnival tradition alive
Unforunatly they made a decision to ban all motorised floats ,without asking all previous entry's from float owners ,businesses, clubs ,pubs ,childrens groups and associations to attend their meetings to discuss the reasons for this decision, only blaming insurance and then later health and safty regulations.

We have supported the carnival for many many years,
and in the last 4 years entered our own floats (see pics on our carnival page and below) ,we along with co float entrys
spent may hours working on our floats and paying all our own expences including insurances!
We have made the decision to start this petition as a direct result of listening to our customers complaining about not having the float entry's

We also feel that with the 2012 games coming to Weymouth and Portland we need to bring back the floats together with the walking entry's(as that had for 50 years) to make Weymouth carnival bigger bolder
and better than ever,as we as a community know how to do, as the world will be watching us

Please support our petition and lets make Weymouth Carnival a event we have always been proud of.

We would also like to thank you all for the support we have already recieved from businesses locals and holiday makers

thank you ~ Jan and Mandy

ANTHONY AND CLEOPATRA
We were proud to have won our trade entry float "cleopatra" in carnival 2007 (the last motorised float entry's)
resulting in us being presented by the round table £300.00 to donate to a charity of our choice we choose Joseph Weald

We were also proud to donate all balloons and decorations to the carnival queen charity ball   held at the at the pavillion 2007 for which they raised £5.000 for charity

8:36am 29th September 2009.                                       petition update wessex fm news

More than a thousand people have now signed a petition to bring floats back to Weymouth Carnival.

The Community Volunteers - who run the event - got rid of them in a bid to make it more environmentally friendly.

But Jan O'Brien and her daughter who own The Party Shop in Weymouth are campaigning for their return.

They've had an amazing response from local businesses and residents.

The Community Volunteers Weymouth took over the running of the carnival after The Round Table pulled out.

They believe scrapping motorised floats will help make the event more 'green'.

This has caused uproar amongst local businesses and residents, who don't agree.

Speaking exclusively to Wessex FM News, Jan O'Brien says 'It's vital this isn't allowed to happen, the carnival means so much to so many people, and taking away the floats will have a negative effect'.

"We've received a tremendous amount of support from local firms and residents across the town and beyond, with many pledging their thoughts on our online petition as well'.

Jan and her daughter now plan to organise a meeting with The Community Volunteers, where they'll show them their petition, and discuss the possibility of bringing the floats back.
